OK, I admit it…I have been avoiding getting an iPhone. No particular reason other than it’s Apple.
And that I loved to poke fun at my friends for getting the iPhone with a data plan with AT&T that sucked. I prefer unlimited data on my smart phone.
My most recent phone was the Google Nexus phone. It had a good run with me for the last two years, but it will likely be my last Android phone.
Last night, I went out and bought my very first iPhone, an iPhone 5 to be exact. Is hell freezing over? I swore I’d never own one.
Since more of my family have iPhones now (especially my wife), the idea on being able to have “Facetime” with them when I’m not at home, was a big draw for me personally. The addition of a better camera AND the 1080p HD video capabilities sealed the deal for me on making the switch.
Now that I’ve gone over to the “dark side”,
I wanted some feedback from my community…and need I your help.
What are your favorite iPhone Apps?
I downloaded some of the basic/required social apps (being the social geek that I am), Facebook, Twitter, Instagram…
But what I would LOVE and would most definitely appreciate…is if you would kick me down two or three of your absolute, can’t live without iPhone apps that you think I couldn’t live without either.
There are soooooo many choices out there in the App Store. I don’t like to waste my time and many of you have been iPhone geeks for years now, so it would be helpful to shorten my learning curve on some of the best iPhone apps y’all have been using.
Any chance you’d be so kind as to do that for little ol’ me?
Puh-puh-puhlease?

Night sky – if you’re into constellations. Where’s my water and angry birds as well as plants vs zombies for gaming. And zombies run for exercise!
Oooh…I’ll definitely have to check out “Night Sky”.
Thanks Becky!
Faves: “Everything”. It’s free and is exactly as the name implies. This app is everything IN ONE!
Hmmmm…now I’m curious Lily. I’ve GOTTA go check that one out! Thanks! You rock!
Evernote is my favorite productivity app. It truly makes life better.
Jasmine is the best youtube alternative. Very simple and clean.
Andrew, I was wondering about a YouTube alternative. Thanks for the tip!
I’d be lost without QuickTip. Yes, I know I should be able to calculate the tip using the power of my awesome mind as I am an adult, but math is hard. QuickTip makes it easy. Going with that theme I’m also a big fan of Convert Units for measurements. Oh, and LevelUp is a must if you want to pay with your phone…
Nice. Excellent suggestions Nate. I think my wife would dig on QuickTip for sure! I appreciate it.
Eat24, ESPN’s ScoreCenter, Around Me, and The Netflix app just to name a few are some of my most used and favorite apps. I highly recommend ALL of them!
BRAD! Man, I just downloaded the Netflix earlier this morning but totally didn’t think about ESPN’s ScoreCenter! What’s wrong with me? LOL Thanks for your response my friend!
I’m a recent convert as well…the 5 has been phenomenal, no problems at all.
Other than the obvious apps that you probably used on your droid, check out Summly, WeatherBug Elite. Those are the two most recent downloads of mine that have a great interface for the 5, and are super user-friendly.
Nice Seth. “Congratulations” are in order?
I will go check those out. I appreciate the tip.
I really like ‘clear’ as a fresh approach to the todo list app. You might like the ‘WordPress’ app (you could update your site from your phone). ‘Google Drive’ and ‘Dropbox’ are must haves for me. And last but not least ‘YouVersion Bible’ app so I always have my bible.
Sweet Todd.
I’ll go check all of those out and like the idea if I’m on the road of updating my site from my phone. I appreciate it Todd.
oh… one more. If you use gmail… the new gmail app is SO much better than the native iOS mail app.
Oh man, I’ll have to check that out Todd! I was wondering about that. Thanks for that tip!
I looove my iphone apps too. What kind of apps are you looking for? You should try herobutton http://www.herobutton.com (get alerts on products, deals, stocks, hotel rates, properties, used and new items). Do you ever use portable scanner apps?
Just looking for a variety of apps…ya know, referrals of what people are lovin’. I don’t use portable scanner apps.
1) Zite! (although it’s on Android and Windows Phone too, but the UI in iOS is so much better). It’s a personalised magazine. You can pick your topic that you like to read the most and even thumbs up/down to let the app learn what topics u like and fetch more that you like
2) Consume – to check for your internet quota, phone’s, etc
Many others really! Tip is to check the Top Free section on the App Store regularly and also appshopper.com to see those free app a day deals
(check what the app is about if it goes free, see reviews and screenshots, then download first even if u don’t need it yet. You’ll then automatically “own” the app and can download in the future for free)
Oh, and welcome to the dark side haha
Michael…thanks for the feedback and the welcome.
Welcome to the Apple Side of the Force Tim!
Some Examples of Apps I use daily:
Evernote with its 2 extensions (Skich and Penultimate for wonderful pic anotations and drawings on the go) Evernote’s family of Apps is perfect to organize ideas, post coments, add value to something that catches your attention.
Dragon Dictation. For situations where ideas come to your mind already phrased the way you like them and you are not able to write or hate writing on the touch screen keyboard, it is perfect. You can twit or post to FB directly from the app.
Check them out, they’re awesome
Thanks Aurelio! I’ve definitely been using Dragon Dictation.
