Having walked into a new job with an internet company and finding out that they’ve been penalized by Google manually due to unnatural linking (Penguin update) for their main money keywords was frustrating to say the least. Thankfully, I had put together a gameplan of 4 ways to regain your organic traffic in spite of Penguin to help them stay afloat while their rankings for the main keywords were off the top 100 results when they used to be on the 1st page of Google for their keywords.

The most powerful action we took was to create long tail keyword versions of their money keywords. If you don’t know, long tail keywords easier to rank for since they are less competitive in most cases, bring in more combined traffic, and often convert more visitors to customers since they are more targeted in their searching.

Long tail SEO is a “white-hat” SEO process that involves targeting less competitive, highly specific search terms (a.k.a. long tail keywords). Since over 70% of all search queries are for long tail terms, there is incredible value in taking control of those kewyords.
